Students will need their own instrument, which can be purchased or rented. They will also need a music stand, a notebook to keep track of progress and assignments, and a copy of an appropriate method book which contains the written music we will work from. Some instruments also have specific accessories, such as shoulder rests for violin and viola, rock stop or strap for cello, etc.

A one-time trial lesson (at the standard rate) is offered before making a commitment to enrolling.

I accept students ages 5 and up.

Lessons are held on a weekly basis, with a student’s lesson occurring at the same day and time each week. Some students elect to take two lessons per week to make even more progress, or to split their lesson time between orchestra and solo repertoire. I do not offer “every other week” or any other frequency of lesson scheduling.

I recommend 45 minute lessons for most students. Students that are very young or have a hard time focusing can do 30 minute lessons. And for students who are more advanced or have higher achievement goals, I recommend hour lessons (or two lessons per week).

There is no set amount of practice time that will work for everyone, as this is based on a student’s age, skill level, attention span, goals, etc. Consistency and the level of focus during practice is often more important than duration, and making practice a daily habit is the goal. A rough rule of thumb would be to practice daily for at least 30 minutes. There is no practice “requirement,” and I am always happy to work with a student where they are. Life happens, and not every week can be a perfect practice week. However, over time, students who do not practice consistently will become stagnant or lose interest, while those who do will have far more success and fulfillment. For an advanced middle or high school student wanting to optimize their progress and potential, and to be competitive in school and regional auditions, 1-2 hours of practice per day is recommended.

If I cancel a lesson, you will always receive either a makeup lesson, refund, or credit towards next month’s tuition. Student cancelations are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
